Around the Diocese

The 1st Sunday of the month sees the Old Rite Mass celebrated at 3.0 pm in the small Suffolk church
of Our Lady Immaculate & St. Joseph, Lawshall, some 10 miles south of Bury St. Edmunds. This is in fact the oldest Catholic Church in Suffolk. Of course, the vast majority of parish churches in England were built as Catholic Churches, but that's another story! Mass was celebrated by Fr. Gerard Quigley. The image below shows the altar and sanctuary some 10 minutes before the start of Mass.

The church, which was originally attached to nearby Coldham Hall, goes back to the 16th century, and is a testimony to the great faith of the Rokewood family of Coldham Hall. The following link provides some fascinating background to the church.
