Pontifical High Mass in Norwich

It is with great pleasure that I can announce the joyous news that the Bishop of East Anglia, Alan Hopes, will celebrate a Pontifical High Mass (Old Rite) on November 1st, at 12-noon. The Mass will take place at St John the Baptist Cathedral. I would urge as many of you as possible to support this event.

Very good but long overdue. When pope emeritus B xvi opened up access to the Tridentine Mass in 2007, I politely tried to correspond with Mgr Michael Evans about how this was to manifest itself in the diocese of East Anglia. My emails were fielded by Mark Hacked on as Secretary who could only repeat that Mgr Evans was waiting for further instructions from Rome. What this meant I have no idea (nor did Hacked on or Mgr Evans in my opinion). I welcome Mgr Hopes initiative BUT I fear the cathedral and diocese of East anglia are in a pitiable spiritual vacuum and sadly lacking in orthodox catholic faith and practice . Don't get me started on the horizon loaf and tin mug of tea "image" of the Blessed Sacrament on sale in the cathedral shop.......

Please read Mark Hackeson for Mgr Evans' secretary and the Hovis loaf not horizontal as predictive text preferred! Apologies.

Anonymous I have experienced all of this too,it seems as these clergy are scared of the Trational Rite if Mass or scared that the V2 experiment has failed,at least "The spirit of".I am feel with joy and thanks that once again I can attend the Mass I was brought up with and that is part of me.The last Mass was in 1974 and I sang Bass on the Choir, after Canon Mc Bride the Rector never again would it happen! and it has,nt until now

There is no problem with doing the mass but the manner in which Bishop Alan organises things is atrocious. He expects to click his fingers and for things to happen for him without any consideration of others. Unimpressed.

But surely this has to be a mighty improvement on the Previous Bishop Michael Evans who kept any attempt of a Tridentine Mass away from St Johns ?

This isn't about the mass itself which I am sure is not "for God's sake", more like "for human vanity and power-hunger". The whole thing has been handled extremely unprofessionally. Bishop Alan people skills certainly need attention.
